The Lincoln Memorial: Platform for a Dream
Saturday August 23, 11:00am
Adults: $10  Children 4-10: $5

The Lincoln Memorial is not only a striking monument to Abraham Lincoln — it has also provided the setting for several landmark events in our nation’s cultural history. This is the platform where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood when he delivered his ‘I have a dream’ speech.  Americans have favored this majestic site as the background to demonstrate their basic freedoms and right to assemble — ever since its dedication in 1922.

Walk with us to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the March on Washington. Hear how Dr. Robert Moten, president of Tuskegee Institute gave the keynote dedication address – and where he was seated.  Learn about the events that led to Marian Anderson’s concert before a grateful audience of 50,000 people!  Also visit the Vietnam and Korean and World War II war memorials; and the proposed site for the Dr. Martin Luther King memorial near the Tidal Basin.

Meet at the refreshment stand south of the Lincoln Memorial
